In the wake of Manhattan grand jury indictment by DA Alvin Bragg regarding alleged hush money payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy is defending former president and 2024 candidate Donald Trump.
“Alvin Bragg has irreparably damaged our country by attempting to interfere in our Presidential election,” McCarthy tweeted. “By routinely releasing violent criminals to terrorize the public, he has weaponized our sacred legal system against President Donald Trump.” The American people will not stand for this injustice, and the House of Representatives will hold Alvin Bragg responsible for his unprecedented abuse of power.”
Cruz said this in his rcent tweet:
Cruz predicted on his podcast earlier this month that arresting Trump would only increase the former president’s popularity among supporters.
Nikki Haley, Trump’s 2024 opponent, also spoke out in support of Forty-Five, saying that Bragg is clearly out for vengeance rather than justice.
“From everything I’ve seen of this New York district attorney, this would be something he’d do for political gain.” What we know is that when it comes to political prosecutions like this, it’s more about vengeance than it is about justice.”
Many Republicans have linked the indictment to billionaire George Soros, who has donated to Democratic candidates and causes.
As reported by the New York Times, the connections between Soros and Bragg are “real but overstated.” The newspaper, Soros contributed to a liberal group that financially supported Bragg’s campaign.
According to the New York Times, “a spokesman for Mr. Soros said that the two men had never met, nor had Mr. Soros given money directly to Mr. Bragg’s campaign.”
However, the Washington Post revealed in 2019 that Soros was investing in Bragg’s race
